Application of CLEFIA

Blockcipher is not only a technology for confidentiality, but it is a fundamental general-purpose component used for many purposes including authentication, integrity, pseudo random number generations, components of a hash function and key stream generators. In the following, several application examples of blockciphers in real situations are listed.

• Protecting copyrighted content stored in disc media including DVD, Blu-ray Disc, etc
• Device authentication to identify whether the other party is legitimate or not
• Secure protocols for data transmission including SSL and TLS
• Preventing information leakage by using disk encryption systems

These are only small examples. It is expected that cryptographic technologies including blockciphers will be used more and more according to the increasing demands for the information security in the future digital world.
