Yoshitomo Tanaka Photo Exhibition SUPER OLD

Wanting to photograph Japanese people who were teeming with life, I met with over 100 veteran specialists from diverse fields. They averaged over 90 years in age and captivated me with their presence, so, from the pictures I took, I assembled works that captured their “hands” into this exhibition and timed it to coincide with Respect for the Aged Day.

Having survived the tragedy of war, the chaos in its aftermath, Nature’s wrath and the trials of life, today, wrinkled by time, they are passionate, positive and forward-looking. I hope you see just how “awesome” the Super Old are as I found them to be.
