About the Sony World Photography Awards
The Sony World Photography Awards is a photo contest that Sony has sponsored since 2007 as a contribution to the continuing development of the photographic arts. It provides a broad platform for photographers of various levels of development and works of a wide range of genre, via 4 competitions: Professional (10 categories), Open (10 categories), Youth (ages 12 - 19) and Student. Now in its 12th year, the 2019 contest received some 330,000 entries from 195 countries and territories, making it one of the largest photo competitions in the world. Besides prize money and merchandise, winners are given a boost in launching and promoting their careers via opportunities to show at a syndicated exhibition in London, England, post their work in the awards book published by Sony every year and receive international media exposure. The syndicated exhibition mentioned above is held every spring at the Somerset House in London, England. It is a must-see cultural event in London that draws over 30,000 visitors from around the world.
