Yuichi Yokota Photo Exhibition Finnish Winter Lights

Lapland is in the northern reaches of Finland. It is a magical world covered in snow with a magnificent natural environment and spectacular lights.

Together with friends from six countries, I explored Lapland over the winter months of 2015 - 2016. Hopping from place to place, we passed our time hunting auroras, dogsledding, hiking up snow-covered mountains, ice-climbing, snowshoeing and doing other rewarding activities. I snapped picture after picture, captivated by the amazing auroras that appeared over my head, and the changing landscape and sky I saw while driving my dogsled.

To this day, I still recall the colors of the wild, the warmth of the fires and the light of the auroras that I encountered under the clear skies and freezing temperatures.

Of the many photos I took during my trek, I am showing here a selection that symbolically captures winter in Finland. I hope my work will help you to sense the natural beauty that this wondrous part of the world bestows in winter.
