The Sony World Photography Awards, the world’s largest photography contest, has been sponsored by Sony each year since 2007 to contribute to the continuing evolution of photographic culture.

  • The contest consists of four competitions: Professional, Open, Youth, and Student, and the Professional and Open Competitions each have ten categories. By inviting such a wide range of entries, the contest uncovers new talent from many different career stages and genres. There are also National Awards, presented to the outstanding entrant in the Open Competition from each represented country.
  • There is also the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award presented to one person each year.
  • Each year four of each winner of 10 categories in the Professional Competition and three of the students who pass the first challenge in the Student Competition are selected as recipients of Sony Professional Grants, providing financial support for the establishment of photography careers.
  • This year there were about 320,000 works submitted by more than 70,000 photographers from over 200 countries. The winning works are publicized throughout the world.

This exhibition presents the winning works from each of the competitions, along with works by the recipients of the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award, the Sony Professional Grants, and the Japan National Award.
