Sony business operations rely on a healthy natural environment. To help promote fulfilling lifestyles today and tomorrow, and achieve a zero environmental footprint, we have set goals from environmental perspectives for our business operations and throughout product life cycles.

Within a product's life cycle, being able to use it for a long time can also be considered as a form of resource saving, which can be considered as environmentally conscious. Sony's camera lenses have long been favored and used by a vast number of customers, and we have a team of over 50 engineers located in Chiba, Japan, who specialize in maintenance and repairs.

Meticulously constructed down to the finest detail, Sony's camera lenses feature many layers of extremely high-precision components that are designed at the microscopic level, incorporating the skills of modern master craftspeople and the tradition of α lenses. The lens manufacturing knowledge and expertise that Sony has developed and successively passed on is also present in our repair workshops, but the skills required to repair these high-precision lenses are not something that can be acquired overnight.

The number of parts varies depending on the size and type of lens, but in some cases, they can be made up of over 800 components. Identifying problems and areas that require maintenance and then returning the product to its original state are incredibly difficult tasks. Sometimes, engineers completely reassemble lenses from the beginning, making constant adjustments as they diligently and carefully restore products to their original state.

Lenses are used to capture many people, landscapes, and emotions. Lenses make their way to the repair site, whether they require maintenance due to continued use, or repair has become necessary for some reason. Restoring the view seen through the lens and returning the repaired lens to the customer, what repair work means to an experienced service engineer who has been involved in repairs for over 25 years.
