Sony Corporation and its employees worldwide want to express their deepest sympathy to the families and friends of those lost in the tragic attacks on New York and Washington, D.C., on September 11.
In response to this tragedy, Sony Corporation and its group companies around the world will be making an immediate contribution of $4 million to relief organizations that are working so heroically in rescue and recovery efforts.
Specifically, $3 million will be earmarked to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund (New York Chapter). We will donate another $1 million to the Twin Towers Fund, which assists and supports the families of the members of the uniformed services of the New York City Fire Department and its Emergency Medical Service Command, the New York City Police Department, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York State Office of Court Administration and other government personnel who lost their lives or were injured because of the tragedies of September 11 at the World Trade Center.
This is the first step that we will be taking to aid those affected directly by the horrible events on Tuesday. Citizens of New York and indeed, citizens of the world who believe in freedom and democracy, are in debt to those who labor fearlessly in the dust and rubble to help clear the debris that has thrown a cloud over our lives.
We all share a profound sense of loss after such a tragedy, but we will not be slowed in our efforts to assist in the recovery effort and comfort those who lost a loved one.
