Sony Korea (Korea)

Sony Korea continues to sponsor the AIESEC EWHA Greenism project, which aims to engage and inspire youths on biodiversity conservation. 43 students benefitted from the project in 2023, participating in various activities such as an International Youth Forum and a Jane Goodall Project where they even met the reknowned primatologist in person.

Sony Global Manufacturing & Operations (Japan)

SGMO is engaged in environmental and CSR activities in cooperation with local communities. At the Kosai site, children from a nearby child welfare facility were invited to join employees in creating a flower bed. This was an opportunity for the children to become familiar with nature and learn about the importance of plant life. The Inazawa site is working with a local organization to preserve the environment by planting environmentally conscious rice paddies, and the children had the opportunity to make shimenawa (sacred straw ropes) from straw made from dried rice harvested in the paddies. Traditional culture was passed on from the elderly to the children through environmental activities.

Sony Network Communications (Japan)

So-net Forest Maintenance Activities - Thinning, Clearing and Trimming of Japanese Cypress Trees –

A total of approximately 500 larch saplings were planted as part of “So-net Forest” maintenance activities. The planted seedlings will be cleared of underbrush and thinned (cutting down trees other than larch) in the summer to help them grow for about 4 years, and in the 10th year, they will be thinned to further promote the growth of the planted trees. During these growth processes, CO2 is sufficiently absorbed, carbon (C) is fixed in the trees, and oxygen (O2) is emitted. This cycle is repeated for another 10, 20, and 30 years, and the trees are used as high-quality larch wood.

Sony Customer Service (Japan)

Sony Customer Service conducted “Clean Day” and “Rape Blossom Project.” The "Clean Day" is a nationwide cleanup activity conducted by Sony Customer Service, and a total of 165 employees participated in this activity at 16 sites in fiscal year 2023. The "Rape Blossom Project" is an initiative to present rape blossom seeds to employees who participate in the "Clean Day.” Seeds were collected from rape blossoms grown by employees at the Togane Technology Site and distributed to all Clean Day participants.

Sony Marketing Inc. is working to reduce the environmental impact of its point-of-purchase promotional materials and their packaging by downsizing, changing materials, and adopting recyclable structures. For 2023 we have started an initiative to eliminate packaging waste by integrating shipping boxes with sales promotional materials.

Sony Corporation hosted a volunteering event on January 24, where employees learned about the current status and utilization of Japan’s forests and completing a wooden building blocks by polishing the pieces of wood from the artificial forest using sandpaper. 23 employees participated in the event and completed two cases of wood blocks, which were donated to a local nursery school.

Sony Europe has created a network of employees across the region who are passionate about sustainability and to volunteer some of their time to drive our efforts and initiatives at a site level. The goal is to leverage their passion and commitment to help our communities. The team was launched in July 2023, meets online every month and has over 120 team members. Within the group, we organize webinars and talks that educate and inspire our teams while sharing ideas and best practices.

SEU 2023 Summer Challenge Supports WWF

The Sony Summer Challenge is an annual event where teams come together to track their physical activity over the summer months. Participants can choose from three categories; running/ hiking/ walking, cycling or swimming. Every kilometer logged on an app contributes to donations for WWF, supporting conservation efforts globally. The challenge is about getting active, having fun, and making a difference. In 2023, participants collectively covered over 262,690.8 kilometers, raising an impressive €30,007 for WWF. It's a great way to stay active, connect with colleagues, and support a worthy cause.

Driving sustainability for 6G at Hexa-X-II

As a part of our wireless standardization activity toward 6G, Sony Europe is performing research with industry and academia partners within the European Flagship Hexa-X-II project. The project has a strong sustainability focus. Colleagues from Sony Europe R&D, as well as the Sustainability network, are contributing to the project. Sony's role involves actively crafting contributions that address the environmental, social, and economic drivers and goals of the European Flagship blueprint for 6G.

ISE 2024 Conference shines a spotlight on Sony’s commitment to sustainability

 

At this year's ISE conference in Barcelona, the world's largest AV systems integration show, Sony's stand, a regular feature, showcased cutting-edge technology, but with a focus on environmental initiatives. Highlights included GM 2025, RE100, and recycled plastic SORPLAS, spotlighting diverse product features with sustainability in mind. Integrated Systems Europe, or ISE, oversees the annual event held every February, experiencing consistent growth since its inception in 2004 with 75,000 visitors for 2024.

Sony Iberia volunteers in aid of The Great Food Collection 2023

At the start of December, Sony Iberia undertook a multi-country volunteering activity, which took place in Barcelona in Spain, and Lisbon in Portugal. With the aim of contributing our help to society, the team, made up of 45 volunteers across the sites, successfully supported events in aid of The Great Food Collection 2023.

Kids in Focus Session combines Sustainability with Photography

The latest Kids in Focus session unfolded on the shores of Westerland, Sylt, Germany. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of European youth in photography through hands-on workshops. In collaboration with Ocean.Now!, Bye Bye Plastik, and the Sylt Tourism Board, the Sony Germany team organized a two-day session during European Sustainability Week 2023. Ocean.Now! and Bye Bye Plastik led discussions on marine plastics with 44 Year 6 students from School Altenholz, Northern Germany. Interactive displays of plastic samples enriched the educational experience, aligning with the program's dual focus on photography skills and environmental awareness.

Over 700 employees attended the 2023 Earth Day fair held at the San Diego campus. The event included a sustainability showcase alongside local organizations who engaged with employees providing awareness and opportunities on how they could take action to help curb climate change; local biodiversity initiatives, and conserve resources such as initiatives to save water and reduce waste to landfill.

The 2023 Children’s Earth Day Artwork Contest theme ‘Invest in Our Planet‘ required entries that would inspire others to take action to protect and preserve our planet. 96 entries sponsored by employees across all Sony's North America companies were received. From the winning entries, a 2024 Sustainability Calendar was created and shared with North American employees.

70 employees and family members supported three I Love a Clean San Diego’s events during 2023. Employees volunteered to remove evasive plant species, replant native plants, and trash and litter pick up during Coastal Cleanup day. Sony Electronics provide annual sponsorship to support the ILACSD event and supported Kids Ocean Day through providing film and photo support with the Sony Airpeak S1. Approximately 185 lbs of trash was collected from the two clean up events.

Sony Inter-American, S.A. (Latin America - Panama)

Sony Inter American S.A. held a beach clean-up event at Paseo del Mar in Costa del Este, Panama City in September 2023 as part of the “One Blue Ocean Project”. Around 35 employees and their families joined the beach clean-up event where 600 kg of waste were collected.

On October 2023 “Food for the Future” campaign was held across Sony Companies in Latin region to raise awarness on sustainable food among employees. Employees were encouraged to read the “Food for the Future” guidebook, watch videos and share sutainable eating actions they practice in their daily life.

Sony Inter-American, S.A. (Latin America - Panama)

On April 2023 Sony Inter-American S.A. participated in the “Festia Harpia” event which is celebarted every year in Panama to raise awarness of the conservation of Panama’s national bird Harpy Eagle. Activities such as animal sounds recognition game to help understand the importance of biodiversity using Sony’s audio products,  sale of promotional goods such as water bottles and T-shirts at the event for the benefit of the NPO organization "Patronato Amigos del Águila Harpía” and crafting for kids were carried out.

Sony Electronics Singapore

In October 2023, Sony Electronics Singapore participated in the International E-Waste Day Exhibition organised by the National Environment Agency. As an exhibitor, Sony helped to raise awareness of E-Waste Recycling through a minigame and showcased its environmental initiatives, reaching more than 112 participants physically. Employees also recycled their E-Waste through an internal recycling drive, totalling at 64 kg.

Sony Indonesia

Since August 2022, Sony Indonesia has implemented a lights-off policy in the office from 12pm to 1pm, as an extended Earth Hour effort. The reduced energy consumption translates to cost savings and this amount saved is used to fund Corporate Social Responsibility activities such as beach cleanups.

Sony India

Sony India has partnered with World Wildlife Fund India since 2021 to conserve guitarfish populations along the coast of Goa, India. Many guitarfish species are hindered by problematic identification and the vast majority of these are threatened, poorly known or both. This project aims to collect baseline data and raise awareness of guitarfish conservation.

Sony Malaysia

Sony Malaysia's "Green Lung Campaign" aims to educate employees on the importance of environment sustainability. In 2023, they ran cleanup activities at Malaysia's National Zoo and Port Klang Beach with 38 employees and more than 142 individuals from external organizations such as students from the University of Wollongong. More than 312.5 kg of garbage has since been collected.

Sony Middle East & Africa

Sony Middle East & Africa organised a Trashion Show for the 2nd year where employees and their family created an art piece or costume for a fashion parade, using materials that would have otherwise been garbage. They were encouraged to use waste to convey a message on recycling and sustainability. This activity involved 18 participants (employees' spouses and children).

Sony Philippines

Sony Philippines conducted a mangrove planting and beach cleanup in May 2023, planting 3,125 propagules on the shoreline of Brgy, Victory, Santiago Island and removing 70 bags of waste from the beach. The activity involved 25 employees as volunteers.

Sony Thailand

Under “The Box of Dreams” project, Sony Thailand planned various educational activities and opportunities for underprivileged children, including activities to nurture their appreciation for nature and inspire them to contribute to the world through actions for nature. Employees guided the children through environment-themed song and dance programmes, plant pot decoration activities and tree planting.

For Sony’s Food for the Future Month, Sony Taiwan invited employees to challenge themselves with designated eco tasks in 10 days, such as bringing their own container when purchasing food and drinks to reduce plastic waste. Employees who completed 3 challenges received a special reusable water bottle as the prize. 60 employees participated in these challenges.

Sony India Software Center is situated within the Embassy Tech Village (ETV), the world’s largest ‘USGBC LEED Platinum-Certified’ complex. In September 2023, ETV organised a ‘Pedal for Planet’ cycling event where one tree was planted for each participant, amongst other initiatives. 25 Sony employees joined this event to promote cleaner modes of commuting and lifestyles.

Sony EMCS (Malaysia) collaborated with The Turtle Conservation Information Centre in Padang Kemunting, Melaka to help clean the "Turtle Pond" and assisted with maintaining the hatchery by excavating debris, such as empty and unhatched eggs. Through this activity, the employees learnt about and contributed to the conservation of Malaysia's turtles.

For the 6th consecutive year, Sony Technology (Thailand) (STT) was awarded the Amata Best Waste Management Awards in Platinum Level – Excellence, organized partly by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand. Since FY’2018, STT has developed a waste management performance standard in line with the 3Rs, a ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ commitment and the local law.

Synecoculture in China International Import Expo (CIIE)

CIIE is one of the most influential events in China. Sony participated in the 6th CIIE held on Nov. 5th to 10th, 2023, with “Sustainable Development” as the theme for the first time . Synecoculture as the main environment technology exhibited in Sony’s booth and held an Syneco App opening ceremony, that gave visitors a great surprised in sustainability area. Over 3,000 persons visited Sony’s booth.

*Cooperative Synecoculture™ farming is a Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc. initiative to artificially create an ecosystem in which useful plants can grow, enriching biodiversity while providing food. Synecoculture™ is a trademark or registered trademark of Sakura Shizenjuku Global Nature Network.

In order to enhance the environmental awareness of employees and publics, contribute for better local community with cooperation with stakeholders, Sony China has been implementing voluntary tree-planting activity every year since 2011 . 91 volunteers from Sony group companies in China participated the event, not only employees but also their family members as well as Sony fans joined the event and planted 90 trees in Beijing.

On October 29, 2023, SDPW collaborated with the community and Disabled Persons‘ Federation, jointly held the cleaning activity under the theme of “For the sanitation workers”. More than 50 participants joined the event,including SDPW leadership members, volunteers from the employees, and sanitation workers, collecting 138kg of garbage.

On June 9, 2023, to promote the concept of environment protection and to protect the marine environment, SSVE together with relevant departments of Shanghai government and community, held an clean up activity with the theme of "One Blue Ocean" in Shanghai. About 60 volunteers and 26 primary school students participated in the event, collecting a total of 32kg of garbage.

On October 2023 “Food for the Future” campaign was held across Sony Companies in Latin region to raise awarness on sustainable food among employees. Employees were encouraged to read the “Food for the Future” guidebook, watch videos and share sutainable eating actions they practice in their daily life.

Sony Inter-American, S.A. (Latin America - Panama)

On April 2023 Sony Inter-American S.A. participated in the “Festia Harpia” event which is celebarted every year in Panama to raise awarness of the conservation of Panama’s national bird Harpy Eagle. Activities such as animal sounds recognition game to help understand the importance of biodiversity using Sony’s audio products,  sale of promotional goods such as water bottles and T-shirts at the event for the benefit of the NPO organization "Patronato Amigos del Águila Harpía” and crafting for kids were carried out.

Sony Electronics Singapore

In October 2023, Sony Electronics Singapore participated in the International E-Waste Day Exhibition organised by the National Environment Agency. As an exhibitor, Sony helped to raise awareness of E-Waste Recycling through a minigame and showcased its environmental initiatives, reaching more than 112 participants physically. Employees also recycled their E-Waste through an internal recycling drive, totalling at 64 kg.

Sony Indonesia

Since August 2022, Sony Indonesia has implemented a lights-off policy in the office from 12pm to 1pm, as an extended Earth Hour effort. The reduced energy consumption translates to cost savings and this amount saved is used to fund Corporate Social Responsibility activities such as beach cleanups.

Sony India

Sony India has partnered with World Wildlife Fund India since 2021 to conserve guitarfish populations along the coast of Goa, India. Many guitarfish species are hindered by problematic identification and the vast majority of these are threatened, poorly known or both. This project aims to collect baseline data and raise awareness of guitarfish conservation.

Sony Malaysia

Sony Malaysia's "Green Lung Campaign" aims to educate employees on the importance of environment sustainability. In 2023, they ran cleanup activities at Malaysia's National Zoo and Port Klang Beach with 38 employees and more than 142 individuals from external organizations such as students from the University of Wollongong. More than 312.5 kg of garbage has since been collected.

Sony Middle East & Africa

Sony Middle East & Africa organised a Trashion Show for the 2nd year where employees and their family created an art piece or costume for a fashion parade, using materials that would have otherwise been garbage. They were encouraged to use waste to convey a message on recycling and sustainability. This activity involved 18 participants (employees' spouses and children).

Sony Philippines

Sony Philippines conducted a mangrove planting and beach cleanup in May 2023, planting 3,125 propagules on the shoreline of Brgy, Victory, Santiago Island and removing 70 bags of waste from the beach. The activity involved 25 employees as volunteers.

Sony Thailand

Under “The Box of Dreams” project, Sony Thailand planned various educational activities and opportunities for underprivileged children, including activities to nurture their appreciation for nature and inspire them to contribute to the world through actions for nature. Employees guided the children through environment-themed song and dance programmes, plant pot decoration activities and tree planting.

Sony Taiwan

For Sony’s Food for the Future Month, Sony Taiwan invited employees to challenge themselves with designated eco tasks in 10 days, such as bringing their own container when purchasing food and drinks to reduce plastic waste. Employees who completed 3 challenges received a special reusable water bottle as the prize. 60 employees participated in these challenges.

Sony India Software Center (India)

Sony India Software Center is situated within the Embassy Tech Village (ETV), the world’s largest ‘USGBC LEED Platinum-Certified’ complex. In September 2023, ETV organised a ‘Pedal for Planet’ cycling event where one tree was planted for each participant, amongst other initiatives. 25 Sony employees joined this event to promote cleaner modes of commuting and lifestyles.

Sony EMCS

Sony EMCS (Malaysia) collaborated with The Turtle Conservation Information Centre in Padang Kemunting, Melaka to help clean the "Turtle Pond" and assisted with maintaining the hatchery by excavating debris, such as empty and unhatched eggs. Through this activity, the employees learnt about and contributed to the conservation of Malaysia's turtles.

Sony Technology (Thailand)

For the 6th consecutive year, Sony Technology (Thailand) (STT) was awarded the Amata Best Waste Management Awards in Platinum Level – Excellence, organized partly by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand. Since FY’2018, STT has developed a waste management performance standard in line with the 3Rs, a ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ commitment and the local law.

Sony China

Synecoculture in China International Import Expo (CIIE)

CIIE is one of the most influential events in China. Sony participated in the 6th CIIE held on Nov. 5th to 10th, 2023, with “Sustainable Development” as the theme for the first time . Synecoculture as the main environment technology exhibited in Sony’s booth and held an Syneco App opening ceremony, that gave visitors a great surprised in sustainability area. Over 3,000 persons visited Sony’s booth.

Sony China

In order to enhance the environmental awareness of employees and publics, contribute for better local community with cooperation with stakeholders, Sony China has been implementing voluntary tree-planting activity every year since 2011 . 91 volunteers from Sony group companies in China participated the event, not only employees but also their family members as well as Sony fans joined the event and planted 90 trees in Beijing.

Sony Digital Products (Wuxi) Co., LTD.(SDPW)

On October 29, 2023, SDPW collaborated with the community and Disabled Persons‘ Federation, jointly held the cleaning activity under the theme of “For the sanitation workers”. More than 50 participants joined the event,including SDPW leadership members, volunteers from the employees, and sanitation workers, collecting 138kg of garbage.

Shanghai Suoguang Visual Products Co., Ltd. (SSVE)

On June 9, 2023, to promote the concept of environment protection and to protect the marine environment, SSVE together with relevant departments of Shanghai government and community, held an clean up activity with the theme of "One Blue Ocean" in Shanghai. About 60 volunteers and 26 primary school students participated in the event, collecting a total of 32kg of garbage.
